Jean Virginia Cobb, 88, Midview's First Female Bus Driver
Jean Virginia Cobb age 88 of Oberlin passed away Thursday, May 26, 2005 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.She was born Saturday, July 8, 1916 in LaGrange, living in Eaton Twp. for 60 years before her recent move to Oberlin.
Mrs. Cobb was a member of North Eaton Christian Church for many years and a member of the Esther Circle of the church. At one time she served as church treasurer and was instrumental in starting the church's food concession stand at the Lorain County Fair. Mrs. Cobb retired in 1978 from the Midview School District where she served as Midview's first female bus driver. She was a member of Elyria Saddle Club, Ohio Pony of America Club, and was active at the Lorain Co. Fair. She enjoyed Horse Shows and bakng cakes & pies for her family.
She is survived by 2 Daughters Judy Emerich of Oberlin, Ohio, Darlene Cobb of Noth Eaton, Ohio, 1 Son James Cobb of Oberlin, Ohio, 11 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren, 1 Brother Harold McAlpin of Elyria, Ohio
She is proceded in death by her husband James in 1983, parents Vernon & Phoebe McAlpin, brother Stanley McAlpin, and sisters Elizabeth Holland, Dorothy Chapman & Mary Schoefield.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main Street, Grafton from 3:00 til 8:00 pm with funeral services Wednesday at 10:00 am in North Eaton Christian Church (Disciples) 35865 East Royalton Rd. Grafton (Eaton Twp.) with Dr. Paul Durbin pastor off. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery Eaton Twp.
