Robert Lee Baker, 58, Retired U.S. Steel Team Leader
Ronald Lee Baker, age 58, of Elyria, died unexpectedly on Friday May 27, 2005 at Mariner’s Hospital in Key Largo, Florida.Mr. Baker was born September 6, 1946 in Sacramento, California and had been a resident of Elyria since his childhood.
A graduate of Elyria High School as a member of the Class of 1965, he joined the United States Steel Corporation in 1966 and was employed there as a maintenance team leader. He retired in 1999 following thirty-three years of service with the steel producer.
Mr. Baker had been an active member of Aloholics Anonymous since 1980.
Ron’s hobbies included day trading activity in the stock market, gardening, extensive travel, and deep sea fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years: Rebecca Becky (nee Dykes), daughters: Jackie Cunningham of Euclid and Rhonda Baker-Debevec of Mentor, stepsons: Donald Jeffreys and Jesse Dykes both of Elyria, his mother: Mary (nee Barfus) Baker of Elyria, grandchildren: Lindsey Cunningham, Adam Debevec, Rachael Debevec, and a fourth grandchild to be born in two months to his son Jesse, along with a brother: David Baker of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his father Gerald J. Baker in 1991 and by his brothers George Baker in infancy, and Gerald W. Baker in 1968.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2005, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Lorain. A memorial service will be conducted by members of Alcoholics Anonymous of Lorain County at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Dormis Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
