Mary Louise Dykes, 77, Attended Tower Baptist Church

Mary Louise Dykes (nee Thompson), age 77, of Lorain, died Sunday June 5, 2005 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Center in Lorain following an extended illness. Mrs. Dykes was born November 21, 1927 in Erie, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Ohio since 1954. She had previously resided in Medina County prior to relocating to Lorain.

A 1946 graduate of Lawrence Park High School in Lawrence Park, Pennsylvania, she was a member of Tower Baptist Church in Lorain and had also been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1981.

Her interests included sewing, gardening, knitting, reading, and solving crossword puzzles.

Mary is survived by her daughter: Rebecca A. “Becky” Baker of Elyria Township, grandson: Jesse Dykes of Elyria along with his wife Rachael), grandson: Donald B. Jeffreys of Lorain, nephews Thomas R. Thompson of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, and Eric L. Thompson of Louisville, Kentucky, sister-in-law: Guida (nee Marty) Thompson of Louisville, an aunt: Ardelia (nee Allen) of Wattsburg, Pennsylvania, and a cousin: Lorraine Swanson of Jamestown, New York.

Mrs. Dykes was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 1979, by her daughter: Cecile Mar-Louise Hammer in 1999, by her father: George E. Thompson in 1971, by her mother: Amaretta (nee Allen) Thompson in 1951, by her son-in-law Ronald L. Baker on May 27th, 2005, and by a brother: Willard Wesley Thompson in 2000.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where a memorial service will be conducted by members of Alcoholics Anonymous of Lorain County at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Terry Brooks, pastor of Tower Baptist Church in Lorain. Burial will be in Litchfield Cemetery in Medina County.
