Felix T. "Blackie" Rodriguez, 65, Grandfather of 26
Felix T. "Blackie" Rodriguez, 65, of Lorain died Saturday June 11, 2005 in Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain following a brief illness. He was born January 20, 1940, in Patillas, Puerto Rico.He moved Manhattan, New York in 1955. He lived there for 41 years before moving to Lorain in 1996. Mr. Rodriguez retired in 1992 as a truck driver from R. T. I. in Manhattan, New York. He worked there for 25 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and was an accomplished multi-position baseball player. He played for the Old Timers of Softball of Manhattan, New York. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and crab fishing.
Among his survivors are his wife of 36 years Carmen Ortiz Rodriguez (nee Cruz); sons Wilfredo Ortiz, Kenneth Reyes both of Lorain and Eddie and Rodnie Rodriguez of Culebra, Puerto Rico; daughters Magda Rodriguez of Culebra, Puerto Rico, Carmen Martinez, Daisey Ramos and Teresa Rodriguez Perez all of Lorain; brothers Nenin, David, Jose, Efraim Rodriguez all of Puerto Rico, sisters Madelin, Annie, Bethel and Tonya all of Puerto Rico and Yolanda Rodriguez of Boston, Massachusetts; 26 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Teodoro Laboy Rodriguez and Eustaquia (nee Vega) Rodriguez; Sister Ida Rodriguez; grandchildren Xavier and Amillia Ortiz and great grandsons Xavier and Isaiah Smith Vargas.
Friends may call Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday with closing prayers at the funeral home at 8:15 AM followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, South Lorain. Reverend, Father William A. Thaden will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
