Laura Atkins, 86, Operated Laura's Beauty Salon

Photo of Laura  Atkins Laura Atkins, (nee Cera), age 86, of Vermilion, died Tuesday June 14, 2005 in the surgical intensive care unit of MedCentral Health Systems Hospital in Mansfield from injuries received in an automobile accident earlier that day.

Mrs. Atkins was born in Lorain on February 19, 1919 and had been a resident of the Inn at Chappel Creek in Vermilion for the past two years. She was a graduate of Lorain High School as well as the Cleveland Institute of Cosmetology. Laura served as the proprietor of Laura’s Beauty Salon, which was formerly located at the corner of West 4th and Broadway in downtown Lorain for thirty-five years. She had previously worked as a clerk in the pipe shop of the Lorain Shipyards during World War II.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain, Mrs. Atkins was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns professional sports teams; additional interests included playing bingo as well as working crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter; sisters Denise Marie, O.P. of the Dominican Nuns residing in Summit, New Jersey, Mrs. Louis (Clarice) Broglio of Lorain; brother John Cera of Rockville, Maryland; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard in 2000; by her parents Louis and Anna Cera; along with brothers Reno, Lucius, Louis, Jr., and Father Raymond Cera.
