Jimmie R. White, 72, Rolling Mill Inspector at U.S. Steel Corporation
Jimmie R. White, age 72, of Lorain, died Friday June 24, 2005 in the Intensive Care Unit at EMH Regional Medical Center Elyria, following a brief illness. Mr. White was born September 3, 1932 in Eccles, West Virginia and had been a resident of Lorain since 1954 coming from Raleigh County, West Virginia.He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a Sergeant attached to the 19th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He was the recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Jimmie was employed as an inspector in the rolling mills at U.S.S./ Kobe Steel Company’s Lorain production facility; he retired in 1994 following twenty-two years of service with the company.
He was a member of the Christian Life Church of God in Lorain whose hobbies included travel, vegetable gardening, and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years: Shirley (nee Nelson), sons: James R. and William N. White both of Lorain, daughter: Patty White of Lorain, six grandchildren, four great grandsons, brothers: Barnie White, Jr. of Shady Springs, West Virginia, Cecil Williams of Beckley, West Virginia, sisters: Mazella Riner of Beckley, June White, Roseanna White, and Alma Bradley all of Baltimore, Maryland, Edna O’Sullivan residing in New Hampshire, Mary Hope Bullion of El Cajon, California, and Sandra Wood residing in the state of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Barnie C. and Edna Maude (nee Beckelhimer) White, and by brothers: Allen and William.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Wallace Justice, pastor of the Christian Life Church of God officiating. Entombment will follow in the Court of Peace Mausoleum at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon where military rites will be conducted by officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans Lorain.
