Betty Louise Leaver Sedivy, 69, Active Volunteer

Betty Louise Leaver Sedivy (nee: Rominger), 69 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Cleveland Clinic following a one-month illness.

She was born October 10, 1935 in Lamar County, Alabama and raised in Columbus, Mississippi. She has been a resident of Amherst since 1962.

In addition to being a homemaker, Betty received her BA in accounting at age 50 from Lorain County Community College with a 4.0 grade average. She was an active member of First Baptist Chuch in Lorain serving in the choir, as a Deaconess, and various other leadership roles. She also volunteered for New Life Hospice Center of St. Joesph for eight years and volunteered for other activities in her community.

Survivors include her husband of twenty-nine years, John Sedivy; her sons Edward Leaver of Knoxville, Tennessee and James Leaver of Cortland, Ohio; her stepson John R. Sedivy of Lorain; her daughter Sherri Pfitzmaier of San Diego, California; six grandchildren; her brothers James Richard Rominger of Kileen, Texas, John L. Rominger of Davenport, Iowa, and Williamn Rominger of Kingsland, Georgia; and her sisters Ernestine Pugh of Killen, Texas and Patricia Wilson of Bilioxi, Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her former husband Charles J. Leaver, Jr.; by her parents Ernest Claye and Emma Rominger (nee: Lovelady); and by her brother Charles Rominger.

Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to CHP Regional Foundation/ New Life Hospice; 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain OH 44053.
