Mary Anna "Mania" Shairba, 84, Lifelong Area Resident

Mary Anna "Mania" Shairba (nee: Truszak), 84 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a short illness.

She was born February 3, 1921 in Lorain. She was raised and lived in South Amherst before moving to Lorain ten years ago.

IN addition to being a housewife and mother, she was employed at Presti's Restaurant in Oberlin for many years. Mary was an avid gardener.

Survivors include her son Joseph Paul Shairba of Grafton; her daughters Virginia Dawson of Oberlin, Carole Shairba and Cindy Shairba, both of Elyria; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her brother Stanley Truszak of Garden City, New York; and her sister Cecelia Bober of North Ridgeville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-eight years Joseph Felix Shairba on October 2, 1966; by her grandson Michael Shairba; by her parents Wadislow and Mary Truszak (nee: Tomila); by her brother Walter "Sonny" Truszak; and by her sisters Helen Sivinski and Anna Truszak.

Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. from Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church; 333 South Lake St., South Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Denis St. Marie, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggest that memorial contributions be made at CHP Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice; 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain 44053.
