Mary Jane Kalinowski, 77, Enjoyed Cooking and Baking

Mary Jane Kalinowski (nee Szakats), 77, of Lorain, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 along with her husband Walter from an accidental drowning at the flooded E. 21st Street underpass in Lorain.

She was born January 23, 1928 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mary Jane was a Lorain High School graduate with the class of 1946B.

She worked at Worthington Golf Ball in Elyria, McGarvey’s Restaurant at Sheffield Center, Avon Oaks Country Club as a server in the banquet facility and as a waitress at the Polish American Citizens Club in Lorain.

Mary Jane was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Lorain. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, polka dancing, prayer and taking care of her family. Every month she would meet and have lunch with other retirees of Worthington Golf Ball. She also enjoyed having lunch with her sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Vidovich of Elyria, Deborah Mitoff of Lorain and Jean Maxwell of Lorain, son, Kenneth Kalinowski of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, 11 grandchildren, sisters Joan Furiga of Lorain and Donna Dugan of Lorain and brother Eugene Szakats of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jane (nee Baraga) Szakats and her stepmother Anna (nee Micklos).

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 19, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held at the funeral chapel on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, 1412 E. 29th Street, Lorain. The Rev. James P. Schmitz, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
