Walter S. Kalinowski, 85, Enjoyed Gardening and Playing Cards

Walter S. Kalinowski, 85, of Lorain, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 along with is wife of nearly 55 years Mary Jane from an accidental drowning at the flooded E. 21st Street underpass in Lorain.

He was born April 17, 1920 in Dickson City, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Lorain area since 1948.

Walter served with the US Air Force during World War II in Burma, India and China.

Walter worked at US Steel in Lorain as a millwright and maintenance worker for 35 years retiring in 1982. He created an automated lubrication system for the Rolling Mills and was recognized by US Steel with an award.

He was a member of St. Ladislaus Cahtolic Church in Lorain where he helped as an usher for many years and was a member of American Legion Post #30 and the United Polish Club both of Lorain.

Walter enjoyed gardening, playing cards, polka music and polka dancing.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda Vidovich of Elyria, Deborah Mitoff of Lorain and Jean Maxwell of Lorain, son, Kenneth Kalinowski of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by is parents, Anthony and Elzbieta (nee Pol) Kalinowski, sister Stasia Polanin, brother Joseph Kalinowski and two siblins in a fire in infacy.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 19, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held at the funeral chapel on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, 1412 E. 29th Street, Lorain. The Rev. James P. Schmitz, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the American Legion Post #30 will conduct miliatry honors.
