Richard George Daniels, 88, Enjoyed Fishing and Traveling

Photo of Richard George Daniels Richard George Daniels, 88 of Vermilion, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 in Community Health Partners, Lorain after a short illness.

He was born August 19, 1916 in Ceylon, OH and had lived in Lakewood for 30 years before moving to Vermilion in 1975.

He worked as an Operations Supervisor for the NASA Lewis Research Center, Cleveland and retired in 1975 after 30 years. He had also worked for National Tube Co. US Steel in Lorain following his high school graduation.

He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp. He played semi-pro baseball for the Wakeman Red Caps, Huron G's, Lorain OPS, Westlake Lukes and other area baseball teams.

Mr. Daniels was a member of the Service Division Supervisors Club, NASA; Berlin Heights Conservation Club; Berlin Township Farmers and Hunters Conservation Club; Knights of Pythias Lakeview Lodge Berlin Heights; Berlin Heights American Legion; Order of the Arrow - Cuyahoga Post Lodge; and had been very active in the Boy Scouts, Lakewood Troop 78. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Florence "Charity" Daniels (nee Moes), 3 daughters: Dyan Carney of Springfield, OR, Denise Yeager of Accokeek, MD, and Deborah Schmitz of Bexley, OH; son, James Daniels of Hazel Park, MI; 7 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Esther Burr of Sandusky, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ashbil and Elizabeth (nee Hildebrandt) Daniels, daughter, Lois in 2002, 4 brothers, John, Nelson, Charles and Robert Daniels; and sister Doris Summers.

Friends may call Saturday, July 23, 2005 from 2 to 4 pm, and from 7 to 9 pm, at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, July 25, 2005 at 11 am with Matthew Humphrey, Life Celebrant, officiating. Internment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
