Josephine A. Butchko, 70, Volunteer Cook at Catholic Charities

Photo of Josephine A. Butchko Josephine A. Butchko (nee Shullick), age 70, of Lorain died Friday July 22, 2005 at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 5, 1935 in Periopolis, Pennsylvania, and was a longtime resident of Lorain since childhood.

Josephine was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain for over 40 years, having taught cooking in the St. Peter’s mini-course classes. She was a volunteer cook at the Catholic Charities Family Center on Eighth Street.

Mrs. Butchko was a homemaker and past Girl Scout leader. Her interests included cooking, golfing, shopping, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Josephine’s survivors include her husband of 50 years, Charles P. Butchko, son Charles M. Butchko of Sheffield Lake, daughters Charlene Spinale of Lorain, Cindy Ruess of Jensen Beach, Florida, Connie Huber of Amherst, and Caron Kreicher of Vermilion; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brothers: George Shullick of Vermilion, Melvin Shullick of Florida, Dan Shullick of Lorain and David Shullick of Amherst.

She was preceded in death by infant sons Charles and Clifford Butchko, parents Michael and Anna (nee Barto) Shullick, and brother Charles Shullick.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 24, 2005, from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter - 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain with the Rev. Charles Henkle, O.F.M., associate pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
