Auty Edwards, 82, Was Championship Horseshore Pitcher

Mr. Edwards was born December 24, 1922 in Clinchco, Virginia and had been a long-time resident of Lorain County.

Auty was employed as a hooker at U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works for more than thirty years; he retired from service with the steel producer in 1985.

He was a champion horseshoe pitcher who was also regarded as a highly skilled pool player. Additional interests included gardening and playing cards.

He is survived by daughters Shirley Taylor, and Brenda Tausch of Sheffield Township, Kathy Dennis of Sheffield Village; grandsons David Newsome and Jeffrey Ripking; along with four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (nee Mullins) Edwards in 1992; by daughters Linda Edwards and Dorla Edwards; his father Lundy Edwards in 1962; mother Pricy (nee James) Edwards in 1936; brothers Basil Edwards, Kilby Edwards, Joe Edwards, Delman Edwards, and Floyd Edwards; and by sisters Nanny Lyons, Dora Charles, Lydia Edwards, Gracie Turner, Roxie Puckett, Matilda Gilbert, and Minniebell Perrigan.

Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Larry Newsome and the Reverend Hayes Chaffins representing the Pleasantview Church of Litchfield, Ohio officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery – South Amherst.
