Joseph J. Godles, 81
Joseph J. Godles, 81, of Lorain, died Monday August 8, 2005 at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a short illness.
He was born January 14, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Joseph attended Lorain Schools and then served with the US Army during World War II as a Technician 5th Grade in the 2080th Quartermaster Truck Company in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal with One Bronze Star.
Joseph worked at the American Stove Company, American Shipbuilding Company, and Lorain Products.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his brothers John Godles, Sr. of Avon and Walter P. Godles of Elyria; half brothers Donald Horvath of Lorain, Joseph Horvath of Amherst, and Raymond Horvath of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lestie Heath; parents Anthony Godles, Sr. and Anna Godles-Horvath (nee Nietupska); brother Anthony Godles, Jr.; sister Margaret Velemirovich; and half brother John Horvath.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where a Christian Wake Service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 PM. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, will officiate. Cremation will follow.
