Milan Vukelic, 82

Milan Vukelic, 82 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at Community Health Partners H & S Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 17, 1922 in Licka Jesenica, Yugoslavia. He came to America in 1953 moving to Bessemer, Michigan. Lorain has been his home since 1952.

During World War II, he fought with the Chetniks against the Communists in Yugoslavia. Milan was employed by the U.S. Steel in Lorain for thrity-two years, retiring in 1984 from the narrow gague division. He was a member of St. Mark's Serbian Orthodox Church in Sheffield Lake and the Local 1104 Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed gardening, taking walks, and above all, spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son George Vukelic of Lorain; his daughters Mary Ann Campana of Lorain and Draga Olin of Amherst; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of eighteen years Jela Vukelic (nee Yovetic) in 1979; by his parents Mico and Milka Vukelic (nee Klipa); by his brothers Djuro, Branko, and Bude Vukelic; and by his sister Anka Vukelic.

Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, with a Parastas Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Closing prayers will be held Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a funeral mass to follow at 1:00 p.m. from St. Mark's Serbian Orthodox Church; 1434 Lake Breeze Rd., Sheffield Lake. The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Savich, pastor of St. Mark's Serbian Orthodox Church, and the Rev. Fr. Oilorad Orlich, pastor of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain, will co-officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Brain Tumor Association; 2270 River Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60018.
