Edward P. Sadowski, 83, 2000 Holy Name Man of the Year at Nativity B.V.M.

Photo of Edward P. Sadowski Edward P. Sadowski, age 83, of Lorain, died Sunday August 21, 2005 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Sadowski was born June 5, 1922 in Buffalo, New York and had been a resident of Lorain since 1948.

As an adolescent he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939 through 1941 in the state of New York. He was inducted in the United States Army in December of 1942 and was subsequently assigned to Company B of the 832nd Engineer Aviation Battalion where he served as a bomb loader and truck driver. He participated in battles throughout central Europe, northern France, and the Rhineland. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, as well as the World War II Victory and Good Conduct Medals.

For more than thirty-four years Mr. Sadowski was employed as a set-up man for the Nelson Stud Welding Division of the TRW Corporation.

He was an active parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. Acknowledged as Holy Name Parish Man of the Year in 2000, he also served as the long-time chairman of the parish’s monthly 50/50 raffle.

Ed was a member of both the Polish-American Citizens and United Polish Clubs of Lorain.

An ardent fan of polka music, he participated extensively in league golf and bowling competition throughout the area. His favorite hobby, however, was spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years: Theresa (nee Michalski), a son Dale and daughter-in-law Beth (nee Klopfenstein) of Avon Lake, granddaughters Alison and Anna Sadowski, and a sister Josie Kloch of Tonawanda, New York.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Anna (nee Tokarczyk) Sadowski, along with four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 23, 2005, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain, where officers and members of the Holy Name and Altar & Rosary Societies will recite the rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:30 in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the parish and Reverend Mr. Robert Dybo, permanent deacon will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain
