Isaias ''Bayamon'' Hernandez, 81
Isaias R. "Bayamon" Hernandez 81 of Lorain died Tuesday September 6, 2005 in Saint John Westshore Hospital, Westlake following a lengthy illness.He was born July 22, 1924 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He was among the first Puerto Ricans to come to Lorain to work at the steel mill in 1948. He retired a bricklayer in the open hearth mill at U. S. Steel Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, Lorain in 1970.
Mr. Hernandez was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local 1104 and the Puerto Rican Both of Lorain. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, feeding the birds and reading his Bible.
Among the survivors are his sons Anibal and Gabriel Hernandez both Lorain; daughters Minnie Feliciano and Rebecca Hernandez both of Lorain; brothers Hector Luis Hernandez of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; sisters Sara Lopez of Manhattan, New York, Porfiria Serrano of Orlando Florida, Esther and Almida Hernandez both of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; Five Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ignacio and Petra (nee Rodriguez) Hernandez; brothers Luis, Manuel, Anibal and Juan Hernandez; sisters Lydia, Elivra and Carmita Hernandez.
Friends may call Friday, September 9, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Missionary Porfiria Serrano will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
