Virginia R. ''Virgie'' Nishanian, 80, Long-time Parishioner of Saint Michael Byzantine Church

Miss Nishanian was born January 31, 1925 in Fayetteville, Mississippi and had been a resident of northern Ohio for the past seventy-five years. She was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1943.

Virgie had been most recently employed as a sales associate in the Lorain Goodwill Industries Thrift Store. She had formerly been employed by the National Tube Company, predecessor to the United States Steel Corporation, as a stencil applicator during the World War II war effort.

She was a long-time parishioner of Saint Michael’s Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain. She also regularly attended Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church.

Miss Nishanian was a gifted sketch artist whose hobbies included watching old movies and musicals. Additional interests included Bible study, all forms of crafts, and participating in sing-a-longs.

She is survived by a brother Steve Nishanian of Avon, by a nephew Paul Nishanian also of Avon, and by a niece Tracy Butchko residing in Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Rose Nishanian and by a brother Daniel Nishanian, Jr.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 15, 2005, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hrom,ada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain where a Parastas service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday beginning with a Panachida service at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel to be followed by the conduction of Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church – 2711 West 40th Street – Lorain. The Reverend Nicholas Rachford, pastor of Saint Nicholas Parish will preside,. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
