Bela Potemry, 84, Cleveland Indians Fan
Bela Potemry 84 of Lorain died Monday September 19, 2005 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.He was born April 24, 1921 in Cleveland. His family moved to Lorain when he was an infant. He attended Saint Ladislaus School and graduated from Lorain High School in 1940.
Mr. Potemry Served in the army in World War II with the 26th Field Artillery Battalion in Central Europe, Southern France, Italy, and Rhineland. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Service Metal with five bronze stars, a bronze arrowhead, and a good conduct metal.
He retired in 1882 as a crane operator for Lorain- Cuyahoga Works of United States Steel, Lorain. He worked there for forty-four years.
Mr. Potemry was a member of Saint Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a member of the United Steel workers Union Local 1104 of Lorain and the Saint Lads Club, Lorain.
Among the survivors are his sons Ken and Joe Potemry both of Lorain; daughters Lucy Rieske of Rochester, Lois Chrapczynski and Judy Levendosky both of Lorain; a brother Joseph Potemry of Sheffield Lake; eight Grandchildren and seven great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Florence Potemry (nee Vida) in 1997; son Adelbert Potemry; parents Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Snyder) Potemry and a sister Ethel Zagorsky.
Friends may call Thursday, September 22, 2005, from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Friday with closing prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Saint Ladislaus Church East 29th Street and Wood Avenue, South Lorain. Reverend Father James Schmitz, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio. Where the American Legion Post 30, Lorain will conduct military honors.
