Edward L. Pogorelc, 81, Ford Motor Maintenance Retiree

Edward L. Pogorelc, age 81, of Lorain, died Monday October 3, 2005 at the Sunset View Care Center in Millersburg, Ohio following an extended illness.

Mr. Pogorelc was born on June 12, 1924 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who fulfilled duty assignments in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters of Battle. In 1959 he joined the Ford Motor Company and was employed as a maintenance man at the Lorain Assembly Plant. He retired from the automaker in 1989 following thirty years of service.

Ed was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain. He was an accomplished saxophonist and played with a variety of local bands as a youth. Later in life, he shifted his interests to gardening.

Survivors include his guardian and care-giver Dottie Pogorelc of New London, Ohio, daughters Tanya Barrett of Broadview Heights, and Vanessa Bradt of Norwalk, son Edward C. Pogorelc of Saint Petersburg, Florida, nine grandchildren, and brothers Anthony J. Pogorelc of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Joseph D. Pogorelc of Solana Beach, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Caroline (nee Mihelic) Pogorelc, brother Robert J. Pogorelc in 2002, and two infant brothers.

Family funeral services were conducted Friday, October 7, 2005, in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., associate pastor of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain, where military honors were conducted by officers and members of American Legion Post # 30 and Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the Veterans of Foregin Wars.

Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice program of the donor’s choice.
