Edward S. Turton, 87, Production Planning Supervisor

Edward S. Turton, age 87, of Lorain, died Friday November 4, 2005 at the Inn at Chappel Creek in Vermilion following an extended illness. Mr. Turton was born in Lorain on August 16, 1918 and had been a life-long resident of the city.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and served in the North Pacific Theater attached to the 45th Tank Battalion in Kodiak, Alaska as well as the Aleutian Islands. He was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

He was employed as a supervisor in the production-planning department of United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works and retired in 1980 after forty years of service with the steel producer.

Mr. Turton was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and was a member the Lorain Senior Fellowship, the American Association of Retired Persons Chapter # 3318 of Lorain, the Jolly Sixties Club of Elyria, and the Sunny Seniors’ Club of North Eaton. He was also an avid fan of both the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Bernice “Bea” (nee Hellinger), daughter Diane Konnerth of Amherst, sons James of Vermilion, Joseph of Amherst, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Stella (nee Nowakoski) Turton, by brothers Joseph, Casmir, John, Andrew, and Walter, and by sisters Sophia Shultz, Florence Klingshirn, Mary Turton, Harriet Kerchinske, and Frances Popiel.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2005 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday, November 7, 2005 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park – Amherst Township.
