Hazel E. Thompson, 91, Women's Guild Memember

Hazel E. Thompson (nee: Bartlome), 91 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a one-year illness.

She was born May 31, 1914 in South Amherst where she has been a lifetime resident. Hazel graduated from South Amherst High School with the class of 1932.

Hazel enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in South Amherst where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and sang in the choir for twenty years. She was also a member of Sandstone City Order of Eastern Star in Amherst.

Survivors include her son Jack A. Thompson of Amherst; her daughter Gay E. Zurcher of Henrietta Township; six grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Allen W. Thompson, on October 23, 1998; by her parents Fred and Elizabeth Bartlome (nee: Bunn); by her sister Helen Weston; by her brothers John and Walter Bartlome; and by her step-sisters, Emma, Hilda, Frieda and Bertha.

Friends may call Friday, October 21, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Paul D. Eaton, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ in South Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
