Martin W. Teitelbaum, 53, Librarian in Cleveland Municipal School District

Martin W. Teitelbaum, 53, of Lorain, died Wednesday November 2, 2005 at his home after battling a three-year illness with cancer.

He was born February 18, 1952 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain for the past 30 years.

Martin received his bachelor degree from the University of Toledo and working toward his master’s degree at Kent State University at the time of his illness.

Martin worked for the Cleveland Municipal School District as a school librarian at Daniel E. Morgan Elementary School before retiring. He also taught English at Lorain County Joint Vocational School in Oberlin and Special Education in the Cleveland schools.

He was a member of OELMA (Ohio Education Librarian & Media Association) and the American Federation of Teachers. He was a percussionist for the Lorain Pops Orchestra for several seasons and played several instruments including the drums, guitar, clarinet and xylophone.

Martin worked several part-time jobs as a chimney sweep, bartender and disc jockey at a local radio station. He also bred tropical fish in his aquarium at home.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Mary Ann (nee Ferlic), sons Emmanuel Teitelbaum of Washington, D.C. and Daniel Teitelbaum of North Ridgeville, granddaughter Olivia Teitelbaum, mother Rita Teitelbaum (nee Bregman) of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, brother Bruce Teitelbaum of Chicago, Illinois and sister Fran Greenberg of Rye Brook, New York. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Israel Teitelbaum.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 8:00 p.m. at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Cremation will follow.
