Maryhelen Claus, 86, Accomplished Seamstress
Maryhelen Claus, (nee Kolopos), age 86, of Lorain, died Wednesday November 2, 2005 at her residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following an extended illness.Mrs. Claus was born March 5, 1919 in Elyria, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain for the past sixty-five years.
She was a graduate of Elyria High School and had been employed for a number of years as a clerk for the Faroh Candy Company ‘s Henderson Drive and Broadway Avenue stores.
She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and was also a member of the church’s Marian Guild. She was a member of the Emblem Club of Lorain Elks Lodge # 1301 and had previously been active with the Lorain City Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary and the Lorain Women’s Club. She was an accomplished seamstress whose interests included league golf, league bowling, and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years William H. Claus, a son William J. Claus of Lorain, daughters Diana C. Aguilar of Lorain, and Pamela Bulloch of Vermilion, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, brother Nicholas Kolopos of Utica. Michigan, and sisters Virginia Sillasen of Chicago, Illinois and Barbara McClune of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary (nee Vernell) Kolopos.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Lorain where a rosary will be recited by officers and member of the Saint Anthony Marian Guild at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1305 East Erie Avenue Lorain with the Reverend Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv. Pastor of Saint Anthony Parish officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
