E. Catherine (McVey) Szabados, 95, First Female Executive in the Midwest for Sears
E. Catherine (McVey) Szabados, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, Novmeber 8, 2005 at her granddaughter's home in Madison after a short illness.She was born January 3, 1910 in Lorain, Ohio. She lived in Madison for the past eleven years.
She was the first female executive in the midwest for Sears, retiring in 1975 after 25 years of work.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Lorain, Order of Eastern Stars Madeleine Chapter 204, Dames of Malta, and Daughters of America. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, and crocheting.
Survivors include her former daughter-in-law Loretta Schandorsky of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren, Monica and her husband John Norman of Plano, TX ; Diana and her husband Rick Jaram of Amherst Township; Douglas and his wife Teresa McVey of Ft. Myers, FL; Leslie Schultz of Madison; thirteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold McVey in 1949; second husband John W. Szabados in 1984; son Wesley H. McVey in 1994; parents John W. & Mary Susan Keller; and sisters Lillian Keller, Jessie Miller, and Thelma Steiger.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 10, 2005 from 6-9 p.m., with an Order of Eastern Star service 7 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home 2920 Broadway, Lorain, OH.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Darlene Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetary in Lorain.
