M. Rachel Steris, 81, Enjoyed Involvement in Various Clubs and Served in Many Capacities

M. Rachel Streis (nee: Driscoll), 81 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, Novmeber 8, 2005 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness.

She was born September 17, 1924 in Lynchburg, Virginia where she was raised. Amherst has been her home for about the last sixty years.

Rachel was emplyed by the Lorain County Administration Building in Elyria, retiring in 1992 as a telephone operator. She was a member of the Delaware Ave. United methodist Church in Lorain and enjoyed both international and domestic traveling. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars Queen City Chapter, where she served as a Past Worthy Grand Matron and Grand Representative; the White Shrine; a 50-year plus member of Beta Sigma Phi; was the past president of the Lakeland Women's Club; the Elyria Women's club; the Elyria Business and Professional Women's Club; the Lorain Elks Emblem Club; the Amherst American Legion Auxiliary; the Lorain Historical Society; and the Lorain Order of Moose. she enjoyed her involvemnet in her various clubs and served in many capactites.

survivors include her daughter Charlene Scherach of Lorain; her son Charles W. Steris of LaGrange, five grandchildren, her sister Winnie Brock of Orlando, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Charles Steris in 1999; by her parents Orville and Thelma Driscoll (nee: Musty); and by her brother Orville Driscoll, Jr.

Friends may call Thursday, November 10, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst where an Eastern Star Service will be held during visitation. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. Burail will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to CHP Regional Foundation / New Life Hospice; 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain 44053.
