Thomas Larry (Moose) LuKenic, 74, Inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame

Thomas Larry (Moose) LuKenic, 74, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2005 at Akron Summa Hospital after injuries due to an accidental fall.

Thomas was born March 21, 1931, in Lorain., becoming a lifetime resident. He was employed by Traveler's Insurance Corporation for over 30 years, rising through the ranks to eventually head the Claims Divisional Office in Cleveland before his retirement in 1994.

He was a Korean War Army Veteran. He was also a member of Church of St. Peter in Lorain, Knights of Columbus, Russo-Slav Club, American Slovak Club, and Amherst Eagles.

He was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame on April 24, 1993, for his remarkable athletic ability as a youth. He earned 12 varsity letters in track, basketball, and football at Clearview High School in the late 1940's. He was regarded as one of the best all-around athletes Lorain County ever produced. He set records in track, basketball, and football that still stand today.

After receiving a football scholarship from John Carroll University, he graduated and received a law degree from Marshall University. He was also a passionate, avid golfer having won the "Green Jacket" which symbolizes the AA championship at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Lorain.

Survivors include his son Tommy LuKenic of Del Rio, TX; daughter Kaylynne LuKenic-Meecha of Lorain; sisters Dotta Verbanek of Lorain, Rita Faroh of Middleburg Heights, OH, and Pat Amodio of Ravenna, OH.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine LuKenic in 2000; and parents Thomas and Margaret (Buckley) LuKenic .

Visitation will be Sunday, November20, 2005 from 3-7 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain, OH. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 21, 2005at 9:30 a.m., prayers in the Funeral home followed by 10 a.m. Mass at the Church of St. Peter, Fr. Charles Henkle, officiating.

VFW Post 451 and Americal Legion Post 30 will conduct a Military Service. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetary in Lorain.
