Mary Jane Wheatley, 89, Served as a Secretary to the Former Amherst Mayor Frank Janik
Mary Jane Wheatley (nee: Holzhauer), 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, November 21, 2005 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness.She was born March 4, 1916 in Elyria where she was raised. Amherst has been her home for over fifty years.
In addition to being a housewife and mother, she worked part time for the Local chapter of Easter Seals, served as a secretary to the former Amherst mayor Frank Janik, then was employed for eighteen years for Lorain National Bank. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst where she served as a pianist and Sunday School teacher and was a member of Circle Six.
Mrs. Wheatley was also a member of Eastern Stars, the Amherst Historical Society, The Grange and was a Bridge Club member. She was also a volunteer at Amherst Hospital.
Survivors include her sons William E. Wheatley of Elyria, Frederic Wheatley of Bradington Beach, Florida, and Jeffrey Wheatley Amherst; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, William Edgar Wheatley; by her son Carl Wheatley in 1942; and by her parents Francis and Catherine Holzhaur (nee: Rehm).
Family and friends are invited to the interment on Saturday, November 26, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. at St. Peter United Church of Christ; 582 Church St., Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter United church of Christ; 582 Church St., Amherst, 44001 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
