Ann Houston Wentling, 77, Teacher

Ann Houston Wentling (nee: Houston), 77 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday November 26, 2005 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 14, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama where she was raised. She moved to Ashtabula, Ohio in 1950, to Columbus, Ohio in 1970, and then to southern Florida in 1977. Amherst has been her home since 1990. Ann graduated from the University of Alabama in the class of 1949 with a degree in Home Economics and also pursued a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Development.

Ann taught home economics for four years at Ashtabula High School. She was a former member of Church of the Open Door in Elyria where she was active with Evangelism Explosion. Trinity Evangelical Free Church is now her home church where she was active in the prayer ministry, nursing home ministry, and Women’s Bible Study. She enjoyed knitting baby blankets and old movies.

Survivors include her son David Wentling of Santa Fe, Texas; her daughter Carol Klekota of Amherst; and her granddaughter, Kelsey Ann.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years James Westfall Wentling in 1990; by her parents Robert L., Sr. and Corrie May Houston (nee: Crawford); and by her brother Dr. Robert L. Houston, Jr.

Friends may call Tuesday, November 29, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church; 46485 Middle Ridge Rd., Amherst. The Rev. Tom Shumate, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held Thursday December 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. in Ridge View Cemetery, Ashtabula, Ohio.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hopewood Retreat Ministries; 1743 North Ridge Rd., Vermilion, 44089.
