John J. Kuhar, 79, Ore Bridge Conveyor Operator

John J. Kuhar, 79, of Lorain, died Saturday, November 26, 2005, at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 30, 1926, in Lorain, where he had been a lifelong resident. He attended Lorain High School.

Kuhar served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in Germany as a supply clerk. He received the German Group Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed as an ore bridge conveyor operator on the ore docks at U.S. Steel, Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, retiring in 1992 after 42 years of service.

He was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Parish, Lorain. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and AMVETS Post 47, where he was a lifelong member.

He bowled with the AMVETS league, Rebman's Monday Night Men's Bowling League and the Slovak Home Golden Agers League.

Survivors include his son, Richard J. Kuhar of Lorain; daughter, Christine Morain of Elyria; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Sherrie Kuhar (nee Cordova), in 1987; sons J. Michael and Patrick Kuhar, daughter, June Leonard; brothers Michael Kuhar Jr., Steve Kuhar, William Kuhar and Michael C. Kuhar; sisters Mary Kenzik and Elizabeth Y. Osgood; and parents Michael and Elizabeth (nee Sajgo) Kuhar.

Friends may call Monday, November 28, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E. 31st St., South Lorain, where services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Nick Rachford, pastor of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Parish, Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where full military honors will be conducted by the Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 of the Disabled American Veterans, Lorain.
