Jack C. Brown, 88, Retired Supervisor at US Steel

He was born May 14, 1917 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Jack was a graduate of Lorain High School class of 1935B and attended Miami (Ohio) University and Fenn College in Cleveland.

Jack worked at US Steel in Lorain as a supervisor in central maintenance for 43 years retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Elyria. He was a former member of the Towne Club which was a dance and social club in Lorain and a member of the US Steel Management Club.

Jack enjoyed golf and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Jeanne Brown (nee McCray), son John E. “Jack” Brown of Amherst, daughters: Kathleen Shepherd of Elyria, Linda Schweinberg of Amherst, Laurie Steiner of South Amherst and Jeanne Plato of Lorain, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren and sister Ruth Gascoigne of Lorain. He was preceded in death by an infant son, parents John E. & Mary L. Brown (nee Burgett) and sister Evelyn Colgan.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8, 2005 from 4-8 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Holy Name Society will recite the rosary Thursday at 7:45 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
