Opal Lee Davis, 69, Avid Cleveland Sports Fan
Opal Lee Davis (nee: Hamrick), 69 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.She was born February 26, 1936 in Bergoo, West Virginia where she was raised before moving to Amherst in 1955. She had made her home in Lorain for the last seventeen years.
Opal was employed as a dietary aid at Amherst Hospital for twenty-seven years before retiring in 2001. Her hobbies include collecting music boxes and figurines. Opal was an avid Cleveland sports fan, she loved reading, bird watching, and tending to her flower garden.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years Lonnie Alfred Davis; her son William Alfred Davis of Lorain; her daughter Madore Lee Davis of Lorain; her brother Freddie Hamrick of Tucson, AZ; and her sister Iva Hamrick of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her son Richard Allen Davis on March 28, 2004; her brother Charles Hamrick on July 30, 2005; and by her parents Elmer in 1972, Iris Hamrick (nee: McCray) in 1981.
Friends may call Friday, December 9, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst. The Rev. Bill Fraley, pastor of West Ridge Baptist Church, will officiate.
