Edward Paul Ramirez, 52, Loving Husband and Beloved Father

Edward Paul Ramirez, 52, of Sheffield Village died Sunday, December 18, 2005 in Lakewood Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born February 19, 1953 in Lorain, Ohio and resided in Sheffield Village for many years. He was employed as a Division Manager for Great American Insurance Co. for twenty-four years.

Mr. Ramirez graduated from Lorain Southview High School in 1971 where he lettered in football and basketball and was member of the National Honor Society. He also graduated from Oberlin College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics while participating in lacrosse and lettering in football.

He was a member of Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield Village. He was a member of the Oberlin College Alumni Association and the Lorain Southview and Brookside Cardinal Adult Athletic Booster Clubs. He was also founder and past President of the Lorain Southview Quarterback Club.

Mr. Ramirez was an avid sports player, coach, and manager. He was co-founder of Frank's Rec/Dr. Dobney's fastpitch softball team in the 1980's through 1990's. He coached the team to Lorain City Championships in 1981-82, 1984- 85, and, 1987-88; Ohio State Championships in 1985-86: Regional Championships in 1991 and 1993; National Runner-Up in 1994, and; a National Championship in 1993. He remained active in sports through coaching numerous youth baseball and basketball teams in the area. He was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 for these accomplishments

He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years Rachelle (nee Freeze) Ramirez of Sheffield Village; son Jared Ramirez and daughter Joanna Ramirez both of Sheffield Village; parents Enrique and Isabel (nee Maltos) Ramirez of Lorain; brothers, Frederick Ramirez of Lorain, Richard, and Anthony Ramirez both of Amherst; sister, Jean Florell (nee Ramirez) of Orlando, FL; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jesse Maltos and Anna Bonzar (nee Popovich); paternal grandparents, Maximino and Maria Ramirez (nee Silva).

Friends may call Wednesday, December 21, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Reidy - Scanlan - Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain. Where a Christian Wake Service will be Wednesday at 4:30 PM in the funeral home. Funeral services will be Thursday with closing prayers at 9:15 AM in the funeral home then 10:00 AM Funeral Mass in Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church Abbe road (Route 301) and Colorado Avenue (Route 611) Sheffield Village. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio.
