Mary Hollis, 81, Owned Open Pantry Stores in Lorain
Mary Hollis (nee Bacon), 81, of Sheffield Lake, died Sunday December 18, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.She was born November 21, 1924 in Andover, Hantz, England and had resided in Sheffield Lake since 1972 moving from Cleveland.
While Mary was living in England she volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II.
Along with her late husband Harold, she owned and operated the Open Pantry convenience stores on G Street and Oberlin Avenue in Lorain until retiring in 1988.
She is survived by her sons: Mike Hollis of Vermilion and Rich Hollis of Olmsted Falls, daughters Debbie Hollis of Iva, South Carolina and Sue Balogh of Sheffield Lake, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and brothers and sisters in England. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold W. Hollis in 1990 and parents Francis and Doris Bacon (nee Paris).
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. James Peter, chaplain of New Life Hospice, will officiate.
