Romey Dobrin, 82, WWII Veteran, US Steel Retiree

Romey Dobrin, 82, of Sheffield Township, died Sunday December 18, 2005 at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

He was born January 13, 1923 in Sheffield Township and had been a lifelong Sheffield Township area resident.

Romey graduated from Clearview High School in 1941 and enlisted in the US Navy during World War II serving in the photo recon unit in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater.

He worked for Holmes Construction Company at US Steel in Lorain and later worked in management for US Steel retiring in 1983.

Romey was a charter member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, a life member of St. Lad’s Club in Lorain and a member of American Legion Post # 118 in Amherst.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards.

He is survived by 2 sisters: Helen Mascenik with whom he made his home in Sheffield Township and Sylvia Bell of LaGrange and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Dobrin (nee Prundean), brother George Dobrin and sisters Ann Dobrin and Evelyn DiSilvester.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 20, 2005 from 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria Township. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
