Samuel P. DelBoccio, 89, U.S. Steel Coke Plant Foreman

Photo of Samuel P. DelBoccio Samuel P. DelBoccio, age 89, of Sheffield Village, Ohio died Wednesday December 21, 2005 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village following a brief illness.

Mr. DelBoccio was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 6, 1916 and had been a resident of Lorain County since his childhood.

A parishioner of Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield Village, he was employed as a foreman in the Coke Plant at U.S. Steel’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. Sam retired from the steel producer in 1980 following a career that had spanned more than thirty-eight years.

He was a social member of Italian-American Veterans Post # 1 in Lorain who enjoyed participating in league bowling competition at the Lorain Croatian Club as well as the Lorain Saxon Club. Additional interests included big band music, gardening, golf, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by daughters Adele DelBoccio of Sheffield Village, JoAnn Mantini, Anita Revta, and Mary Beth Hall all of Amherst, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister Clara Betka also of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years Elizabeth (nee Moldovan) in 2000, by a son Samuel “Sonny” DelBoccio in 2004, by brothers Dominic, Geno, and Paul, and by sisters Christine DelBoccio and Mary Merthe.

There will be no visitation. Private family funeral services will be held in Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church – Sheffield Village with the Reverend Robert Franco, M.Div. pastor of the parish officiating. Burial will follow the in Saint Teresa Cemetery.
