Hazel M. Hutcheson, 96, Nurse's Aid

Hazel M. Hutcheson (nee: Wood), 96 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, December 26, 2005 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin.

She was born August 11, 1909 in Cowarts, North Carolina. She moved to Amherst in 2001 to be near her brother and her family.

Hazel graduated from Sylva Collegiate Institute in Sylva, North Carolina. She worked as a nurse’s aid in the Ohio and Washington State Hospitals for many years. She was a member of Beacon Baptist Church in Lorain. She loved flowers, pretty trinkets and sending and receiving cards and letters. Hazel was the beloved of all her family and friends who were uplifted by her faith and happy, positive outlook.

Survivors include her brother and his wife Jack and Mary Wood of South Amherst; and by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester Hutcheson in 1971; by her parents Early and Polly Wood (nee: Nicholson); by two brothers; and by four sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday, December 27, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 8 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Aaron Webb, pastor of Beacon Baptist Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 10 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
