Louis Surace, 82, Enjoyed Playing Golf
Louis Surace 82 of Lorain died Monday, January 2, 2006 in Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.He was born March 13, 1923 in Lorain. He was a life long resident.
Mr. Surace retired in 1988 as a train engineer for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He worked there for 42 years. After his retirement, he worked as a starter for Brentwood Golf Coarse, Grafton.
He served in the Army during World War II in Okinawa. He earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon, the Good Conduct Metal and the World War II Victory Metal.
Mr. Surace was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a member of AMVETS Post 47, Italian American Veterans Post 1 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 of Lorain. He enjoyed playing Golf.
Among the survivors are his wife of 57 years Ann Surace (nee Sinch); Sons David L Surace of Lantana, Florida Charles H. Surace of Lorain , Robert J. Surace of Hartford, Connecticut, and William B. Surace of Vermilion, Ohio; daughter Mary Ann Robles of Elyria; ten Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Catherine Surace and a sister Louise Kender.
Friends may call Thursday, January 5, 2006, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31 Street, South Lorain.
Funeral services will be Friday with closing prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Homewood Drive and Grove Avenue (Route 57), Lorain. The Reverend Father Thomas R. Smith Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Lorain and Reverend Father Lawrence Martello pastor of Saint Joseph Church, Amherst will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio. Where the Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 and the American Legion Post 30 both of Lorain will conduct military honors.
