Paula J. Kerecz-Savulak, 47, Lived Life To The Fullest

Paula J. Kerecz-Savulak, age 47, of Wakeman, died Wednesday January 4, 2006 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following a five-year battle with cancer.

Paula was born on June 21, 1958 in Lorain and attended Saint Vincent de Paul parochial school. She was a graduate of Lorain Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kent State University and her Master’s Degree from John Carroll University. Immediately following her graduation from college she facilitated patient evaluations at the former Saint Joseph Hospital. She later functioned as a coordinator for the Youth Development curriculum at Elyria West High School.

She was known and respected for her innate ability to see the positive aspects of every situation which led her to fulfill dreams that would take others several lifetimes to accomplish. She lived in the Colorado Rockies for eight years and established a thriving and respected American Indian Arts and Crafts Shop and trading post there. She was able to visit forty-one states and two oceans; she was also privileged to have spent numerous winters in Florida.

Since 1986 she worked side by side with her husband in the operation of their real estate and construction business where she was responsible for the design, layout, landscape, and accounting responsibilities for all of the homes they constructed.

She had a passion for plants and flowers and recreated an arboretum-like atmosphere at their Wakeman home. In her free time, Paula enjoyed sailing with her husband aboard their sailboat. She was also a talented musician playing both piano and guitar by ear. She often played and sang at the weddings of her friends.

For the past eighteen months she served as a member of the Wakeman Village Council.

Survivors include her husband of twenty-two years Michael, her father Charles Kerecz of Lorain, sister Pam Waite of Lorain, and brother Dennis Moskal of Amherst. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Ann (nee Kerti) Kerecz.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 8, 2006, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph Catholic Church – 200 Saint Joseph Drive – Amherst. The Reverend Lawrence Martello, pastor of Saint Joseph parish and the Reverend J. Mark Hobson will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
