James Novak, 71, Nabakowki / White Star Truck Driver
James Novak, 71 years of age, and a lifetime resident of South Amherst, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Community Health Partners in Lorain.He was born August 17, 1934 in South Amherst, Ohio where he was raised. He had made his home with his daughter in Henrietta Township for the past six months.
James was employed as a truck driver at Nabakowski / White Star for fifteen years, retiring in 1986. After retirement he worked at Firelands School in the maintenance department for six years. James was the founding member of Meadowlark Motor Cross Club; a life member of Elyria United Polish Club, and the Teamsters Local #407. His hobbies included traveling, gardening, camping, and woodcarving.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years Donna Jean Novak (nee: Walker); his sons James Novak, Jr. of South Amherst, Jeffrey Allen Novak of Fairview Park; his daughters Tamara Menzing of Elyria Township, and Tanya Knoble of Henrietta Township; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sophie Novak (nee: Carmen); his brothers John Novak, Walter Novak, and Alex Novak; his sisters Olga Dubesa, Annie Skelley, Helen Hillen, Sophie Hansen, and Mary Yuasz.
Friends may call Friday, January 13, 2006from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, OH 44001. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Shumate, of Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
