Billie A. Miller, 84, 3rd Grade Teacher @ Knollwood School

Photo of Billie A. Miller Billie A. Miller (nee: Furby), 84, of Shreve and formerly of Sheffield Lake and Lorain, died Saturday January 14, 2006 at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster.

She was born September 21, 1921 in Stouts Mills, West Virginia and had resided in Shreve for the past 8 years. She had lived in the Sheffield Lake and Lorain areas from 1955-1998.

Billie attended Glenville State Teacher’s College in Glenville, West Virginia and earned a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education.

She taught third grade at Knollwood Elementary School in the Sheffield/Sheffield Lake school system for 29 years. Prior to that she taught one year in the Avon School System.

Billie was a former member of First Baptist Church in Sheffield Lake where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was a member of the Sheffield Lake Art Association (now Erie Shore Art League) and enjoyed watercolor, calligraphy and pen and ink drawing.

Billie was an avid bowler and participated in several leagues at North Coast Shoreway Lanes. She enjoyed dining out, traveling and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. William (Russann “Rusty”) Pearce of Vermilion, son Billy Joe Miller and his wife Sherri of Wooster, daughter Mrs. Rob (Marcia) Schlegel of Shreve and son Ricki L. Miller and his wife Melody of Sheffield Lake, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Miller in 1993, granddaughter Tina Pearce in 1989, parents Alvin & Floda Furby (nee Taylor) and sister Opal Furby.

Funeral Schedule:
The family will receive friends Tuesday 12:30 PM until time of funeral services at 1:30 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Mr. Brian George, vicar of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermilion, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
