Harold Simon Howell, 90, Driver

Harold Simon Howell, 90 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 5, 1915 in Elkins, West Virginia where he was raised. He moved to Elyria as a young man and has been a resident of Amherst for the last three years.

Harold was employed for E & L Transport at Ford Motor Corp. for twenty years, retiring in 1981 as a driver. He was a member of Masonic King Solomon Lodge #57 in Elyria. He enjoyed building and refurbishing homes and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of seventy-two years, Zula Margaret Howell (nee: Jordon); his son Gary A. Howell of Amherst; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert J. Howell in 1994; by his parents John and Mae Howell (nee: Hester); by his brothers Howard Howell and John Howell; and by his sisters Betty Lou Rowan and Virginia Lysaghut.

Friends may call Wednesday, February 15, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association; 37500 Harvest Drive, Avon, Ohio 44011.
