Virginia A. ''Jeanie'' Zernikow, 70, Reach For Recovery & American Cancer Society Volunteer

Virginia A. “Jeanie” Zernikow, (nee Palka), age 70, of Lorain, died Monday February 13, 2006 at the Autumn Aegis Nursing Home.

Mrs. Zernikow was born July 6, 1935 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Jeanie was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend The Ohio State University. She was previously employed as an administrative assistant for the B.F. Goodrich Corporation of Avon Lake.

She was a parishioner of both Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain. She was also active as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society as well as the Lorain County Reach for Recovery Program. A member of the Lorain Senior Center, she enjoyed crocheting and playing cards in her free time.

She is survived by a son Eric residing in Norfolk, Nebraska, granddaughter Hallie Zernikow grandson Jared Zernikow, and by sisters Dorothy Pondy of Elyria and Paula D. Palka of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 1997, and by her parents John and Pauline (Paulik) Palka.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 9, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church – 2428 Elyria Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend David A. Novak, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
