Andrew A. Bereznay, 87, Honored By Ohio Governor in 1972
Andrew A. Bereznay, 87, of Sun City, Arizona and formerly of Lorain, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 in Sun City after a long illness.
He was born July 17, 1918 in Lorain and had resided in Sun City since 1995 moving from Lorain.
Andy served with the US Navy during World War II with the Seabees in the Philippine Islands.
He worked as a welder at American Ship Building in Lorain and then worked with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #129 retiring in 1971.
In 1972 Ohio Governor Gilligan declared October 21, 1972 as Andy Bereznay day proclaimed for enjoining all Ohioans and the building trades in recognition of courage and determination in surmounting his illness in executing his duties at home, work and in the community.
He is survived by his daughters Pat Sarraino of Avon and Christine Bereznay of Elyria, sons Andrew J. Bereznay of Lorain, Jim Bereznay of Grafton and Gerald Bereznay of Kingwood, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers Albert Bereznay of Elyria and John Bereznay of Lorain and sisters Florence Tomasek, Ann Oray and Marge Pekare, all of Lorain and Kathleen Machovina of Grafton.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Bereznay (nee Dargo) in 2002, parents Andrew & Elizabeth Bereznay (nee Hleba), brother Joseph Bereznay, sisters Marie Nemeth and Elizabeth “Betty” Trepoy, granddaughter Cheryl Thomas and great grandson Nathaniel Sarraino.
Private family funeral services will be held.
