Darlene J. Porter, 70, Elyria Hills Store Retiree, Avid Tribe Fan

Darlene J. Porter (nee Blazina), 70, of Lorain, died Tuesday February 14, 2006 at her home after a short illness.

She was born March 6, 1935 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Darlene graduated from Lorain High School in 1953. She worked as a secretary for Sweeney Buick in Lorain for 7 years and then worked as a clerk for the Hills Department Store in Elyria for 15 years retiring in 1991.

She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family and her dog Emmitt Elvis. Darlene was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and country music fan. She enjoyed making charitable donations to various organizations.

She is survived by her twin daughters Donna Porter and Denise Porter, both of Lorain, brothers Franklin Blazina of Lorain and Louis Kish of Oberlin, sisters Catherine Mannie of Acton, California and Janet Rodriguez of Lorain and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Porter in 1991, parents Joseph Blazina and Florence Blazina-Kish (nee Russell) and brothers William Blazina and Thomas Blazina.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 17, 2006 from 5-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM. Darlene’s brother Elder Franklin Blazina of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
