Paul A. Kalis, 66, Retired B.F. Goodrich Chemical Operator
Paul A. Kalis, age 66, of Lorain, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following an illness of three months.
He was born October 30, 1939 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of Lorain County. Paul was a 1957 graduate of Clearview High School.
He had been employed as a chemical operator for the B.F. Goodrich Company in Avon Lake for thirty-two years retiring in November of 2005. He had previously been employed by the Freuhauf Trailer Company of Avon Lake as well as the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant.
Mr. Kalis was currently a parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church and had formerly been a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he was active with the Holy Name Society.
Regarded as an ardent handyman, Mr. Kalis enjoyed tinkering with all forms of mechanical and home projects. Additional interests included spending time with his family as well as watching old movies with a special passion for horror films.
He leaves behind his wife of sixteen years Claudia (nee Crowell), daughters Paula Sanner of Amherst Township and Nicole Wagner of Avon Lake, stepson Bruce Batista of Auburn Township, and stepdaughters Cheryl Beninga of Meadow Vista, California, Claire Batista of Sylvania, Ohio, and twelve grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Arlene Burnworth in 2002, and by his parents Paul and Veronica (nee Straka) Kalizewski.
Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain. Family and friends are requested to gather at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church 2702 Elyria Avenue for the celebration of his funeral mass. The Reverend Kevin C. Shemuga, pastor of the parish will officiate.
