Maxine Clara Smith, 91, Enjoyed Cooking and Baking
Maxine Clara Smith (nee: Hobble), 91 years of age, a former resident of Birmingham, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst following an extended illness.She was born March 1, 1914 in Mt. Union, Pennsylvania where she was raised. She was a longtime resident of Birmingham.
She has worked at the former Kay’s Diner in Birmingham for many years. Maxine attended and supported Birmingham United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles and traveling.
Survivors include her sons Chester Smith of Vermilion, Charles Smith of Amherst, and Michael Smith of South Amherst; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her sisters Anne Giest of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Gladys Long, Fannettsburg, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Charles Linwood Smith in 1977; by her parents John and Kathryn Hobble (nee: Shear); and by eleven brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Thursday, February 23, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Additional calling hours will be held at Agett-Giesel Funeral Home; 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, Pennsylvania on Sunday, February 26, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 27, 2006 at 11 a.m. from Agett-Giesel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Path Valley Cemetery, Dry Run, Pennsylvania.
