Emily Costin, 83, Enjoyed Solving Word Puzzles

Emily Costin (nee Gidycz) 83, of Sheffield Township died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in the Specialty Hospital of Lorain, following a brief illness.

She was born July 24, 1922 in Plains, Pennsylvania. She has lived in Lorain County since she was a child. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1940.

She was a homemaker and mother who was a member of Saint Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, South Lorain, she was also a member of the churches Sisterhood where she helped make piroghies. She enjoyed her cats, solving word puzzles, playing solitary, her rose garden, children and grandchildren. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

Among the survivors are her of 64 years husband Michael Costin, son Dale Costin of South Amherst; daughters Phyllis Garcia and Karen Smith both of Lorain; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughters Marcia Costin and Barbra Kallas; her parents John and Katherine (nee Boback) Gidycz and her stepfather Paul Prorok.

Friends may call Friday, March 3, 2006, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, where Parastas will be 7:30 PM Friday evening in the funeral home. Funeral Service will be Saturday 10:00 AM in the funeral Home. The Very Rev. Hieromonk Gregory Woolfenden, pastor of Saint Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgehill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
