Irene C. Dickinson, 92, Avid Bridge Player
Irene C. Dickinson, 92 (nee Clark) of Mt. Vernon formerly of Lorain-Amherst died Friday, March 3, 2005 at the Inn at Hillen Vale in Mt. Vernon following a lingering illness.Mrs. Dickinson was born on September 3,1913 in Willard. In 1990, she moved to Elyria Methodist Village and then in 2001 moved to Mt. Vernon.
She received a teaching certificate from Geneva College in Geneva, PA and began a teaching career that spanned more than 35 years. She moved to Amherst in 1960 and began teaching Junior High School. She taught in both the Firelands and Amherst School systems. She retired in 1978.
She was a member of the Heritage Presbyterian Church in Lorain. She enjoyed her volunteer work at Community Health Partners, gardening, reading, quilting and her various church activities. She was an avid bridge player and participated in a book club.
Mrs. Dickinson is survived by a daughter Sue (Rodney) Buchanan of Howard, OH, son Russell Dickinson of Pueblo, CO, 2 granddaughters (Lori King & Lisa Strayer), 5 great granddaughters and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry F. Dickinson in 1971, her parents Boyd & Lela(nee Reed) Clark, sisters Kathryn Baxter and Trinna Vogel.
Friends may call at the Heritage Presbyterian Church, 515 N. Leavitt Road, Lorain, Ohio on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 from 10:00 AM until funeral time at 11:00AM. The Rev. James E. Smucker, pastor will officiate.
Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery, near Willard on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 2:30 PM The Rev. Rodney J. Buchanan, her son-in-law will conduct graveside services.
