Carl R. Boughton, 74, Marine Operator/Volunteer Firefighter

Carl R. Boughton, 74, of Lorain, died Tuesday March 7, 2006 in the critical care unit at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria.

He was born April 4, 1931 in Elyria, Ohio and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Carl served with the US Army Air Corps as a private from 1948-1950 and served in Panama.

He worked for 30 years as a Marine Operator/Electronics Technician with Radar Endorsements for the Lorain Electronic Company (formerly owned by Lorain Telephone).

Carl was a member and union representative of Communications Workers of America AFL-CIO Union Local #4370. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Sheffield Township Fire Department and drove ambulance for Gerbick Ambulance.

Carl volunteered with the American Red Cross and was a frequent blood donor. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed model railroading, computers and electronics and was an avid reader. He attended Baldwin-Wallace College.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Joyce Lyman-Boughton (nee Christensen), stepdaughter Laura A. Lyman of Amherst and stepson Jesse H. Lyman of Flat Rock, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Jane Boughton (nee Murray).

The family will receive friends Friday, March 10, 2006 from 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where a prayer service will be held Friday at 8:30 PM. The Rev. Kevin Saylor, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain, will officiate. Cremation will follow.
